Hey I really donn want to hurt any lover of this book. I myself had really felt proud whenI heared the news of Indian winning a booker prize that too for his debut novel. But we indians really think about the worth of everything that we buy.So, I felt necessary to put a discussion in this regard.
Booker worth?
Aravind Adiga's style of writing isn't anything spectacular, but his honest portrayal of Balram is. It's an easy and quick read. And The White Tiger is anything but boring. The language is simple, and the events are easy to visualise especially scenes of Balram and his father in the village hospital and Mr Ashok's wife running over the child.
But did Adiga deserve the Booker? I think not! It wasn't a bad read at all, but not a book that I would call a classic or even a must read.
I admit reading the book is a little scary. You wonder about your servants and drivers. Will they do anything to get out of the rooster coop? Or do characters like Balram Halwai live only in paper backs? But really you have to be afraid only if you're another Mr Ashok, right?.
