| lemme share my capgemini experience..to start with we had the aptitude test....which was some fun as questions were interesting ..the paper pattern was similar to CAT but level of difficulty was lesser.there were three sections logical , quant and verbal. There were sectional cut offs .We knew this before the test as the HR announced that 10 out of 25 questions in each section was the threshold.Out of 90 students only 22 qualified. It was not a cake walk after all. My interview was most memorable.there were two members in the panel.as I handed them my resume they examined every detail.I had portrayed keen interest in C and C++.Naturally I was asked relevant questions .Now i was out of touch with the topics.so My answer were approximate and vague but i covered myself my saying that i need revision.there after they tested my domain skills .I am a mechanical student mind you!! But even though i had good grades i was totally under confident .so was the interviewer. He was not a mechanical person. He asked summarize what all you learnt in mechanical. Such a clever question when you don't know what to ask. i gave them equally vague answers but with the poise of a IIM graduate. He had n clue what i was saying but he had to accept it.They asked me other questions like my hobbies and why capgemini??? I had ready and smart answers to them.I must say my communication skill was the only weapon which helped me win the battle. All in all you need a good aptitude to clear the written and thereafter just act smart in the interview.Pointers don't matter!!!! I hope my account will be of help to fellow NITians. | |

| Subject: punj lloyd PI experience Sat Feb 07, 2009 12:46 am | |
| This is my punj lloyd PI experience,Hope it will be help to the readers
Honestly speaking there is no clue about what the punj lloyd does.Ali i know know it is an international contracter firm for
infrastructute projects and the PPT started with how they have started their journey as a mere domestic company to a MNC
level player. What attracted me was it has pprojects all across the asia and have only 5% of their business in india. They CTC
they offred was 3.8 LPA.They will provide fooding and lodging also. And the selection process started it constuted of A
written test of 1hour duration(it included apti, logical, verbal& Technical),A GD round and a final Technical cum HR round.
In the written test I was very nervous.I really had a very bad atart with the analytical section as no thoughts are coming my
way of how to solve it.I had really messed up with it.after 30mins they have taken the analytical paper and asked us to start
the technical part. The technical paper was a bit difficult, some questions wre like if you had ever heared of a particular
topic in the each question you can interprete them.I have iterpreted all of such questions and some questions really demanded
some stuff to guess the answer and some were direct hits. After 30min they have collected the sheets and asked us you come
after 30mins.
outside everyone started saying that analytical and verbal part was dead easy but the technical part was tough. I started crumbling about how much i could score in the analytical and verbal section.I had kept my fingures crossed and was
waiting anxsiously for the results and the results came finally.Out os the 10(mech)+9(civil)+7(electrical) they had
shortlisted 6(Mech)+5(Civil) candidates.
I was shocked of how could clear the written part(Apti part).Just when I was about to attend the GD round. One of the panel
members stopped me and said"I have seen your written test paper, your apti was very pooy you had missed the cutoff by
1mark,Just because you have got the highest marks in the technical we decided to give you a chance and shortlisted you a
really have to give a outstanding performance in the next round to get shortlisted to PI.I thought in myself "Oh! this is how
I made it".
The word"Outstanding performance" escalated with in me again and again. This instead of makng me nervous have given me some
confidence.
GD started they had noted our names against the seat numbers. They asked:"Are you people ready" "Yes sir" we all said in an unision. They had read three topics and have asked us to select one. The topics were 1.some hifi management topic(I have forgotten it) 2.About politics 3.Should the management be a part of engineering curicullum
all started differing with each other about the choice.I had kept my cool and took my turn, with a firm voice said"friends is
the first topic fine with you, only 2 said yes.So we have eliminated it. and again asked if the 2nd topic is fine,4said
yes",so eliminated it also and Almost all voted for the 3rd topic and I said "we will go for the 3rd one"
They have agreed to it.
Again I opened the discussion making a point that basic knowledge of the management is very much necessary for an engineer" After that people infavour of it had made their points aswell. and suddenly person infront of me had differed with us saying that"no there is no need to incorporate any management
course,it may not be helpful,to have a very good knowledge one has to do MBA instead" everyone started their versions to
counterfiet it:,I had kept my cool once again,Panel member has to interupt to resolve the fight. Now, I asked why he is so
much sure about engineering ciricullum should not consist of a magament couse: He said" it will be incomplete" I said"May be its incomplete but sometimes the manager had to deal with the crisis of resources,Logistics and may be managing
people,So the courses which can help him in this regard should be incorporated" They asked us to conclude it,I had made a conclusion on everyones behalf
They have shorlisted 5(mech)+3(civil)
Im given 5th order for PI,everyone said they are not asking much technical questions, but asking the questions which are out
of the box(how important is family to you, about your father, friends etc) Now,my turn came,he asked me "why terrorism is increasing",I said"people who were forgetting their own origin and values are
increasing and thats the reason" "What About India" he said "People started ignoring they are Indians in the first place,But they started proclaiming that they are hindus or Muslims or
Christians and becoming fanatics" "Ok tell me about your summer project",I have explained him about it."Thank you" he said I was waiting for the results which they have finally announced,They have selected only 1. and by gods grace thatz me. Thank you-Sudeep

| TCS experience
The written test was pretty simple and straight forward. TCS generally interview quite a number with various panels. From a mechanical engineer, I guess they expect not much in technical side. They tested me on my smartness, guess they expect some good communication skill and sharp thinking. The interviewer was pretty friendly and helped me keep my cool. His intentions were towards recruiting one and not rejection. Being truthful and mindful of the things you speak is important. He also expected from me a very strong interest in me towards joining the company whatever be the constrints. I guess my assurance fetched me the job.

| It was the best interview of my life!!!! everything went smooth and perfect.Even though I was under prepared it clicked for me that day.Interview was both HR and technical.HR questions are similar to any other interview. Some of the technical questions dat were askd r basic principle of pressure cooker factor of safety types of welding and its applications in boilers etc...eg lap welding for boilers. stresses acting on a rotating shaft. inter cooling and reheating, some other questions on turbo-machinery.Whatever be the question I think honesty and confidence will help.Do not beat around the bush and do not give roundabout answers .Be straightforward. My best wishes to 2010 batch.... | |

| Subject: Some interview Tips from my experience Sat Feb 21, 2009 7:30 am | |
| Here are some lessons that I have learnt from my interview experiences!!!hope my tips will be useful to the upcoming batch.
Technical Quesns (mechanical)
brush up ur basics on material science, thermo ,heat transfer, fluid mechanics,SOM,M.d,TOM,Iron Carbide is a must.
H.R Round Be yourself .Dont mug up rehersed answers.Be prepared to face any question regarding ur CV.You must be very particular about backing up ur claims in the CV with interesting examples.secret to success in HR interview is a good understaning of oneself and expressing views confidently.
Some Thumb Rules for interview -be well dressed to give impression that you are serious enough. -stay relaxed -Avoid bluffing unless ur a master at it. -Keep all ur documents like marksheets etc in proper order.Do not be negligent in these matters .It can be irritating for th HR.
Some General suggestions
-Be very attentive during PPT, jolt down key-points and ask amicable questions to get noticed then and there. -Try to identify yourself with the goals and ethics of to company during the interview.Try to give the impression that you want to grow with the company and avoid admitting that you have plans of higher studies.Remember that companies don't entertain job hoppers.
